Glen Alpine Hits 50/50 Grant

Glen Alpine Fire Department will purchase a Thermal Imaging Camera, and put four firefighters in new turn out gear this year thanks to the NCOSFM Fire/Rescue 50/50 Grant.  Glen Alpine Fire Department was awarded $7,855.00 on this grant towards this purchase with the fire department matching the same amount.  With out grants like these it makes it extremely difficult for departments to be able to purchase the much needed equipment to make our job much safer and less stressful.

Glen Alpine recieved 30 safety cones on grant

Glen Alpine Fire Department participated in the North Carolina Highway Incident Safety Grant.  This grant presented departments who met the criteria with five orange safety cones for each apparatus with six wheels or more.  Glen Alpine received 30 of these orange safety cones which will be used on traffic accidents and fire scenes to help prevent further accidents from happening.  The grant was free for departments qualified to participate and will be a huge advantage in our safety.

Glen Alpine applies for 2009 FEMA Grant

Glen Alpine Fire Department applied for the 2009 FEMA Grant.  If awarded, at very minimal cost to the department, we will recieve funding for 15 SCBA (Self-Contained Breating Apparatus) and Three RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) packs.  SCBA's are what firefighters wear to have clean breathing air when entering hazardous enviroments.  RIT packs are used in situations where a firefighter gets injured in a structure and is unable to get out on his/her own. The RIT team will take these packs in the structure where the downed firefighter is located, they will use the RIT packs to give the downed firefighter fresh air while being rescued.  Check back later in the year for updates on the status of this grant.
